Built in 1891, Middle Ground Lighthouse is the oldest caisson lighthouse in Virginia. The red light shines every night, keeping ships and sailors safe from running aground on Middle Ground Shoal. In 2005, the Billingsley and Gonsoulin families purchased the lighthouse at auction. It has become a project, a retreat, a passion, and above all, a home.
